New single: We Will Call On Love
We Will Call On Love was rediscovered last summer while searching through tunes I hadn’t released. Instant charm. It expresses an energy I feel now, as the love of my life and I called on love to see us through my really tough, long journey with disease, treatment and recovery.
I wrote it around 2006 for the wedding of Alice Gasparian and Darren Hill. I don’t recall if they included a candle ceremony, but I liked the metaphor. Our mutual friends and bandmates Robyn Rosenkrantz and Michael Glover collaborated on a quick and simple recording. They got the feel of the early-’70’s vibe right away, somewhere in the land between Carpenters, Beatles (McCartney/Harrison) and ELO, and pure me.
But this time Robyn and Michael weren’t available, so all instruments (some midi) were arranged, played and recorded by yours truly. Singing the duet with me is Karoline Hausted, with Mark Davis on backing vocals along with my quite talented protégé, Sojourner Zink Fruci, and in her first professional recording debut, one-year old Eleanor Leona Fruci. Home-recorded at Papa’s Moon Studio and mixed/mastered by Conor Sisk at Rainshadow Recording.

Sometimes music and lyrics come at once, together.
As my daughter, Sojourner, was born, so too was my fatherhood. Before, I doubted my readiness. Then, all the resources of Life were there in abundance. I would be the father she needed, and good enough. All I had to do was show up.
This simple tune showed up in April 2021, most of the words with it, and like my fatherhood the rest came soon after. In 2023, Sojourner had me notate it for a friend to perform at her wedding reception for our father-daughter dance, a double-honor.
All instruments (including midi) arranged and performed by yours truly, except Sojourner Fruci Zink on bongos and young Ms. Eleanor Leona Fruci on periodic effusions. Home-recorded at Papa’s Moon Studio and mixed/mastered by Elijah Jenkins.
